New York native Dan Ackerman has been a media junkie ever since he was old enough to reach the remote control. Tragically, after two semesters of film school, Dan realized he was a profoundly untalented filmmaker. Breezing through the rest of his college experience, Dan knew that while the director's chair may elude him, there were plenty of media careers that didn't require knowing how to load a Bolex.

Following a post-college stint as an on-air radio jock, Dan returned to the big apple and graduate school at Fordham University, where he picked up a Master's Degree in Media Theory. While there, Dan worked at legendary radio station WFUV, producing segments with artists like Michelle Shocked and Bobby McFerrin.

A natural jump from radio to print followed as Dan hooked up with an exciting start-up magazine, Beer Connoisseur. Sadly, BC's eclectic mix of upscale men's lifestyle features and vaguely white trash beer stuff didn't catch fire with the public and Dan had to play out the year at Beverage World, a leading trade publication.

Joining online entertainment network UnderGroundOnline (www.ugo.com) in 1998, Dan edited videogame site E3.Net before helping launch UGO's film and music channels. Dan also was part of the team that created the infamous Gary Coleman Webathon (as seen on 20/20, Good Morning America, Wired and USA Today).

Already running UGO's daily editorial team, Dan made the leap from Senior Editor to Editor-in-Chief in the Spring of 2000 by hooking up with Clubplanet.com, the nation's leading nightlife website. Re-christening Clubplanet's unique blend of features, interviews and listings with the tagline "nightlifestyle," Dan built the brand into a major player in the growing electronic music/club culture scene, leading to relationships with partners like Imagine Media, Vindigo, Bacardi, Perrier and Sony Music.

After Clubplanet's sale in the summer of 2001, Dan joined Live Music Channel, a producer of syndicated music television programs. There he developed new program proposals and oversaw the company's web strategy.

In the Fall of 2001, Dan's indie record label, Helper Monkey Records, released its first two albums to mild critical acclaim and indifferent sales.

In 2002, Dan rejoined the Clubplanet team. Under his editorial watch, several high-profile content syndication deals have been signed and the Clubplanet brand has made the jump to radio and print. Building on the success of the quarterly Clubplanet print magazine, Dan started a weekly column on nightlife for amNewYork, a daily New York City newspaper.

In addition, Dan freelances for publications like USA Today and PC Magazine and is the co-founder of GameGal.com, the game industry's leading authority on women's gaming and technology issues.
